I am a french woman living in the north western part of France, called Brittany (not far from ST Malo). I moved overhere from Paris 6 years ago for family reasons. I teach english to French adults and it's really interesting! I sometimes miss Paris but I go there regularly. I used to travel a lot abroad for my work but now I am leading a much quieter life...
As for fanfictions....I discovered what it was all about as late as Spring 2006 because of my deep interest in "Brokeback Mountain"'s 2 main characters ! I read A.Proulx's short story before watching Ang Lee's movie. Both works moved me more than I am able to say...
At a time of my life when things have been changing, heading for new challenges which scare and thrill me at the same time, the story of BbM still touches me deeply. I found in this story so many things I could identify myself to in terms of fear, want, expectations and social awareness.
Trying to develop this story further through fics is a nice way to linger on the original plot and characters...
However I am not a fan of Real Person Fiction dealing with Heath and Jake especially when it gets to very personal things... I feel both sad and embarrassed for the true people they are in real life especially after having the professional talent and courage to commit themselves in accepting such challenging roles! Let them be...especially as Heath Ledger tragically passed away recently.
I do enjoy the reading of fanfictions inspired by movies or Tv series I really loved providing they do not betray the original work's spirit...and that of course requires some Talent as a writer!
While I was surfing on the american fanfiction websites, I often came to read enthusiastic comments on the US TV series "Queer as Folk". It rang a bell because I had seen the Uk version on French TV a few years before and I had really liked it! Quite by chance, one of our paying cable tv channels happened to broadcast the US series in 2007 and I managed to watch the 5 seasons...throughout the year.
It was rather breathtaking for the most part of it! I do not think I could have watched it with some of my friends or relatives...probably too disturbing for them and no doubt they would have been stunned to see me watch it with so much pleasure!
Indeed, I enjoyed the diversity of characters, the twists and turns of the plot (sometimes not too rational), the performance of all the actors and of course I was particularly attracted by the couple of Justin and Brian! Their professional chemistry was so obvious and wonderful on screen! Naturally, I have found a lot of fanfictions websites about QAF and some are very good mostly when they deal with the characters of Brian and Justin! So, fic writers, keep on your good job! I am a fan!!
